DIVISION OF DRINKING AND GROUND WATERS - P2 Excerpts from SFY 99 Environmental Performance Partnership Agreement (EnPPA), June, 1998
GOAL V - INTEGRATION OF POLLUTION PREVENTION ACTIVITIES INTO ALL ASPECTS OF DDAGW'S PROGRAMS (page 43)
To more fully integrate Pollution Prevention (P2) into DDAGW's operations, the following activities will be implemented:
A. The division will continue to implement current internal P2 activities (double-sided copying; use of E-mail; recycling of paper and other materials used in the division) and to seek additional internal P2 opportunities (combining forms which serve similar purposes; reducing light usage where possible, etc.)
B. Drinking Water staff will distribute, during inspections and other site visits, industry-specific fact sheets and other P2 information compiled by and/or in conjunction with the Office of Pollution Prevention (OPP). Topics may include but are not limited to high efficiency pumps, optimizing chemical usage, energy assessments and P2 in water quality laboratories. Information on contacting OPP will be disseminated.
C. The Underground Injection Control (UIC) Section will continue to review waste minimization plans required of Class I facilities by ORC 6111.045 and to provide P2 suggestions to these facilities. Class V facilities will be provided with P2 options via fact sheets, brochures and other information. Newly developed fact sheets will contain P2 information and resources. P2 information will be disseminated at appropriate meetings and conferences.
D. P2 will continue to be a focus of the Wellhead Protection (WHP) and Source Water Protection (SWP) programs. P2 suggestions will be made to entities undertaking WHP and SWP efforts. P2 information will be disseminated at appropriate meetings and conferences.
E. P2 will be incorporated into enforcement settlements via P2 Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs) in accordance with OPP's July 1997 SEP Guidance and the Revised Attachment III dated December 1997, and any other subsequent revisions and supplements.
F. Additional P2 education will be attained through inclusion of P2 articles and resources in the division's periodic newsletter and web site.
The Office of Pollution Prevention was created to encourage multi-media pollution prevention activities in Ohio to reduce risk to public health, safety, welfare and the environment. Pollution prevention stresses source reduction and, secondarily, environmentally sound recycling while avoiding cross media transfers. The Office analyzes, develops, and publicizes information related to pollution prevention and increases awareness of pollution prevention opportunities via education, outreach, and technical assistance programs for business, government, and the public. For printed copies of this or other pollution prevention publications distributed by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Pollution Prevention, please call the Office of Pollution Prevention at (614) 644-3469.
A printed copy of the Office of Pollution Prevention publications distribution list, "Pollution Prevention Information Available from Ohio EPA", may also be ordered by calling (614) 644-3469.
